HI, WE ARE REBREAD.
Our mission is to solve the problem of surplus bread on a global scale, so we provide the food market with upcycling technologies.
With climate change and the world's growing population, we really need to use food in the most sustainable way possible!
That's why we created Krast — a healthy soda made from upcycled bread, designed to make your gut healthier.
Our product was developed as part of the RIS EIT Food project.

What is KRAST?
KRAST is a healthy probiotic & postbiotic soda made from rescued bread. It’s gently sparkling, refreshing, and good for your gut — with no added preservatives or sugar.
Wait… made from bread? How does that work?
Yes! We use dry, clean surplus bread that would otherwise go to waste. We process it safely into a natural base, then ferment it naturally into a delicious drink.
Is it safe to drink something made from yesterday's bread?
Absolutely. Krast is produced using a safety protocol that allows us to use surplus bread as a raw material for production. We never use moldy or spoiled bread. Only clean, dry surplus bread is used!
What does KRAST taste like & what flavours do you have?
Light, fizzy, and slightly fruity! For now we have two flavours. Each flavour — Cherry Vibe and Strawberry Sparkle — has its own unique taste and a refreshing finish.
We have more than 5 other flavours developed for B2B cooperation, together with our Upcycled bread Base. Contact us if you're interested in producing bread-based drink for your own brand.
What are probiotics and postbiotics in KRAST?
Probiotics are live “good bacteria” that help your gut stay healthy. We have added to each Strawberry Sparkle can 1 billion CFUs (colony-forming units) of live cultures with documented positive effects on the gut microbiota. They support normal digestion, immunity, and overall gut health. Every flavour of KRAST has also active postbiotics: lactic acid, bacteriocins, short-chain fatty acids (SCFA). Postbiotics are non-viable probiotic bacteria and beneficial compounds produced by these bacteria, sourced from fermented bread.
Is KRAST good for my health?
Yes — KRAST supports your gut microbiota and overall well-being. It’s made with natural ingredients and no added preservatives. Krast contains only naturally occuring sugars (no sweeteners).
Does KRAST contain caffeine?
Only our Cherry Vibe flavour does — it gives a gentle, natural energy boost (14,7 mg per 100 ml). It’s recommended for adults or older teens. Other flavours are caffeine-free.
How should I store KRAST?
KRAST is pasteurised, so you can Keep it out of fridge in a cool, dry place. Best served chilled before opening. Once opened, store it in the fridge and drink within a few days for the best taste and freshness.
Is KRAST vegan or gluten-free?
KRAST is completely plant-based! Because it’s made from bread, it does contain gluten — so it’s not suitable for gluten-sensitive people.
Does KRAST contain alcohol?
KRAST is a non-alcoholic drink — it contains less than 0.5% alcohol. In the fermentation process, we use probiotic bacteria that do not produce alcohol. They convert surplus bread into beneficial organic acids.
Why does my drink say “upcycled ingredients” on the label?
“Upcycled” means we give a new life to surplus bread that would otherwise be wasted. Instead of throwing it away, we transform it into something valuable — your drink.
How is KRAST different from kombucha or other sodas?
KRAST is smoother and less acidic than kombucha and less sweet than kvass or other sweet sodas, with balanced flavour and gut-friendly benefits. Many healthy sodas undergo high-temperature pasteurisation, which kills good bacteria. At Strawberry Sparkle, we use special bacterial cultures that survive pasteurisation, so all the beneficial bacteria are still in the can when you open it! It’s also the world’s first soda made from surplus bread!
Where is KRAST made?
KRAST is proudly made in Poland by our team of food innovators at Rebread, in collaboration with Polish and swiss universities. For B2B partners, Krast is designed to be locally produced — using local unsold bread and beverage producers.
